The Tempus Public Foundation organised a seminar to commemorate the 10th birthday of the Grundtvig project in Budapest on the 25th May 2010. The participants analysed the achievements of the first decade of this popular project and its effects on adult learning, they also held discussions about the current status of adult education.

In terms of the number of participants in adult education, Hungary is near the bottom of the list of European countries and OECD member states with its 3.8 – 4% participation ratio. At the same time, according to OECD data, in Hungary those with higher education have a much higher chance to training opportunities than those with lower qualifications. This also makes the Grundtvig projects extremely important in the country, because they provide exact solutions to these two tendencies through their international co-operations. These statements were made by experts during the seminar “10 years with Grundtvig project”, which was organised by Tempus Public Foundation. During the event, participation-based, interactive methods were used to process the subject matters relating to the Grundtvig project, as well as to Hungarian and European adult education.
The direct and long-term effects of the Grundtvig project on the individual, on the various institutes and on the Hungarian higher education have also been discussed. References were made to the experiences gained during international co-operations and the possibility to include the entire adult target age group (for example: those with disadvantages).
An exhibition introducing the outstanding projects of the program was also organized during the event.
The Emmausz Foundation has set up its English-Hungarian workshop “Our traditions, our treasures and the challenges of the 21st Century”, which was also presented during the seminar. Their project examined the male and female roles by self assessment methods. The participants, who were not only trying out weaving and archery for the first time, but also learning to ride and dance, were additionally introduced to handcraft techniques that are important to support personal development.

Another exhibitor, Anthropolis Egyesület, is working jointly with its Austrian, Slovenian and Slovak partners on the project GERC_net (Globális Nevelési Tudásközpontok hálózata Közép-Európában), http://www.gerc-net.info/start.asp?ID=230947&b=1663.
The partners promised to provide global training as the distribution of educational views. A Global Education Centre was set up in all participating countries. The role of the global training is – by understanding and discussing the links between complex social, ecological, political and economic issues - to make the students able to form and distribute their own point of view and to find their role within the global community. The Education Centres provide books, teaching materials and expert advice on all these issues for the teachers, students and interested parties.

In Hungary, for the past 10 years the Grundtvig project, known as part of the EU Lifelong Learning Program, has been offering the possibility for adult students to become active members of the society, to acquire new knowledge and to improve their chances on the labour market. Contrary to the belief in strict learning, Grundtvig, by informal learning, shows that learning must not only be hard work, but a social experience too. The project offers a wide scope, its primary aim is to provide education irrespective of profession and general knowledge, and therefore an extremely colourful activity scope can be fitted into the various tender types. Tenderers can obtain practical knowledge in life-situations, according to their interest or even to their personal requirements. There are Grundtvig projects, for example, in conflict management, self knowledge, baby-massage, carpet weaving, and amateur radio-operations.
1 million Euros financial support was assigned to 10 Grundtvig projects in Hungary in 2009.
