cedefopThe European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop), founded in 1975 and based in Greece since 1995, supports development of European vocational education and training (VET) policies and contributes to their implementation. We are helping to develop the right policies to provide the right skills.

Objective and priorities

Cedefop’s strategic objective is to strengthen European cooperation and support the European Commission, Member States and social partners in designing and implementing policies for an attractive VET that promotes excellence and social inclusion. The objective is supported by three medium-term priorities for 2012-14:

  • Supporting modernisation of VET systems
  • Careers and transitions – Continuing VET, adult and work-based learning
  • Analysing skills and competence needs to inform VET provision

Developing lifelong learning

Cedefop actively supports the development of lifelong learning strategies in Europe and the Member States. The Centre monitors and reviews trends and policy developments that are related to lifelong learning. It provides policy-makers with data and analysis and offers opportunities for knowledge-sharing and best-practice exchange in education and training.

Currently Cedefop focuses on lifelong guidance, validation of non-formal and informal learning, teachers and trainers in vocational pathways, apprenticeships, early leaving from education, and adult/work-based learning. In the recent past it has also studied ageing workers.

Our projects

  • Empowering young people
  • Adult/work-based learning
  • Lifelong guidance
  • Validation of non-formal and informal learning
  • VET teachers and trainers
